Story
Built inside a publishing house.
Editera grew inside Marmot Books in Sofia, because one person knew too much.
Built inside Marmot
The house
Marmot publishes children’s books: Bulgarian originals and licensed titles. Seven people. A shop, bookshop chains, book fairs, school visits.
The problem
Every title lived in a dozen places. The one place that held all of them was one person’s head.
The build
Marmot runs on Editera every day: every sale, every euro, every statement. Each room was built because the house hit the wall it fixes.
How it’s built
Nikolay isn’t a programmer. AI is his engineering team, and every change passes blind reviews, a backup and an out-of-hours release. [to confirm]
- In daily use
Daily
every sale, every euro, in one house
- Titles
120
titles – in one register
- Bookshop chains
6
bookshop chains – reports read, not retyped
Every room answers a problem.
Nothing was built for a roadmap. Each room exists because the house hit the wall it fixes.

The problem
cover_v14_FINAL2.pdfNobody knew which PDF the printer had. The room: the title record – every file, every version, one link.
-
The problem
The April spreadsheetRoyalties lived in a spreadsheet only one person could read. The room: statements from the same sales we report, orders ready to approve.
-
The problem
Re: Re: correctionsCorrections travelled by email, and the newest version was a guess. The room: proofs with versions and comments pinned to the page.
-
The problem
The last weekend of the monthClosing the month ate the last weekend of it. The room: an assistant prepares the month; a person says yes. Time it takes now: [N] hours.
-
The problem
One headThe second person couldn’t start, because everything was in one head. The room: the house diary – every date, and who did what.

Principles
Three marks we work by.
-
Delete
Nobody types it twice.
A sale lands once. It feeds the royalty statement and the monthly report.
-
Insert
A person says yes.
Assistants suggest. Nothing changes until someone approves it.
-
Stet
Let it stand.
Your list, your authors, your judgement. Editera edits the clutter, not the publisher.
Who answers
“I used to be the only one who knew. Now I’m a publisher who reads.”
Nikolay Kanchovski, co-owner, Marmot Books
One of its owners was the one who knew where everything was. He built Editera so he wouldn’t have to be.
